The Middle Tennessee Trans Diaspora Project, Part One

The veins that should carry breath back to this heart are gone. Since 2016, when the wave of anti-trans bills began in the Tennessee legislature, so many trans people have left Middle Tennessee. For safety, for acceptance, for work, for love, for air, for reasons that are nobody's business.

If you're trans and you left, this is for you. It doesn't matter why you went, or whether it felt like fleeing or just like life. You count. Send us a breath.

Use any postcard and mail it from wherever you are now. Write or draw what you miss, what you left behind, and what you've found: your joys, your people, what you've made of your life. Or send it blank. A blank card is still a breath. Where the return address would go, write the city where you found air. That, and the postmark, mark where we went.

If you're still here and you know someone who left, pass this along. Share it privately, person to person, so it reaches trans folks who have gone, for the safety of our community.

This project runs through June 2027. Cards may be displayed as part of the work, so share as much or as little as you want.
